A New Kind of ClassZoom: Tips for Better Utilizing Video Conferencing to Reach Students from Afar

While the current events of COVID-19 have caused many of our organizations to quickly transition to remote means of instruction and connection, looking to the future, there is benefit beyond this present circumstance in expanding one’s understanding of and comfort in distance-based pedagogy. In this session, the presenter will share research on trends and best practices with respect to online learning/connection at the PreK-12 level; highlight various tools for engagement including video conferencing systems (primarily Zoom, with reference to other systems as well); offer strategies for increasing interaction, and general tips and tricks for those looking to expand their technological self-efficacy. Attendees will be invited to reflect upon their own programs and services, to participate in hands on demonstrations of content covered, and to consider ways they can best utilize online tools and strategies to engage students from a distance.
